Dermal Fillers
How Dermal Fillers Work
The majority of Dermal fillers are a gel-like substance composed of a naturally occurring substance – hyaluronic acid. When injected beneath the skin it helps to diminish facial lines and wrinkles. It also restores lost volume and can return fullness to the face that is lost with aging. In addition, Dermal fillers can alter or enhance your natural-looking contours of your face in order to achieve a more desired appearance.
Unlike the anti-wrinkle injections, like Xeomin®, that relax the muscle under a wrinkle, Dermal fillers fill the line/crease/area with one of several different substances. As a result, troubling spots nearly disappear or are dramatically improved.
Why
The Benefits of Dermal Fillers
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. As we mentioned under our “anti-wrinkle injections” – the facial muscles are working and creating fine lines and wrinkles. With fat loss as you age, and the muscles working closer to the skin’s surface, the wrinkles are created in greater amounts and deeper. Dermal fillers can replace this lost volume: plump thinning lips, enhance contours that are now shallowed, soften facial creases and wrinkles, and improve the appearance of scars. However, fillers aren’t just for LOST volume. Maybe you want more defined cheeks or plumper more pouty lips? There are things that wrinkle relaxers cannot fix, this is where filler comes in!
The other type of dermal filler is Radiesse which is made up of Calcium Hydroxylapatite – which is a mineral-like compound found in bones. It is only used in certain areas of the face such as cheeks, chin and jaw line. It can also be used around the lines of the mouth called “nasolabial folds” and in the temples. It lasts longer than HA fillers and therefore has a slightly increased cost comparatively.
